This Independence Day marks a milestone we hold close to our hearts: the 14th distilling anniversary of Laws Whiskey House. And for the first time ever, we get to celebrate it in our new home—the Laws Whiskey Sanctuary. From Thursday, July 3rd through Sunday, July 6th, we’re pulling out all the stops with a weekend full of whiskey, history, and hospitality. You’re invited to join us for special barrel releases, VIP tours, and cocktail lounge exclusives that pay tribute to the journey behind every bottle of Laws whiskey.
THE STORY BEHIND THE SPIRIT
Our very first barrel of bourbon was distilled on July 4, 2011—a date that forever changed our story. But that journey really began back in 2009, when our founder Al Laws and his wife Marianne traveled to Kentucky in search of inspiration and knowledge.
While staying at a bed and breakfast, a friendly conversation led them to a serendipitous tour of Barton 1792 Distillery, where they met Pam, a host who, after hearing Al’s plans to start a distillery, introduced him to none other than Bill Friel, Barton’s retired Master Distiller.
What started as a quick chat turned into a life-changing, hours-long conversation between two passionate whiskey minds. By the end of it, Bill agreed to come out of retirement and lend his guidance to what would become Laws Whiskey House.
“He’s like Yoda,” Al recalls. “He never answered one of my questions with an answer—he’d just ask me another question until I figured it out myself. He was just the best person for me.”
Bill’s influence helped shape the mindset and philosophy that still guide us today. Fourteen years later, we honor his legacy and celebrate how far we’ve come—with a full weekend of whiskey-worthy experiences.
