3 Exceptional Thanksgiving Pie and Whiskey Pairings

Tis the season to Gather Round a Warm Pie and a Dram of Whiskey

Thanksgiving is a time to get together with friends and family, to enjoy the season, and to give thanks for good fortune. Many people have holiday rituals and traditions and this year, we invite you to try one of ours. At Laws Whiskey House our favorite tradition is pairing whiskey with pie. Here are three pie and whiskey pairings that will elevate your Thanksgiving feast to the next level.

Four Grain Bourbon and Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin pie’s complex flavor is delicious match for our Four Grain Bourbon

Thanksgiving doesn’t get more classic than pumpkin pie. The pumpkin is an iconic sign of fall, signaling the holiday season’s arrival. What’s more, there’s a sense of nostalgia to pumpkin pie not unlike the nostalgia associated with bourbon. Both are American inventions, steeped in history and they share some flavor characteristics. Pumpkin pie’s sweet, creamy, and spicy notes are a perfect match for the complex character of our Four Grain Bourbon. Like pumpkin pie, our Four Grain Bourbon has the sweetness expected from a bourbon with the spicy complexity that originates from the rye, wheat, and barley mash bill.

San Luis Valley Rye and Pecan Pie

Pecan pie’s sweetness is nicely balanced with rye whiskey spice

Pecan pie has quintessential whiskey flavor notes such as caramel, brown sugar, and vanilla. For some, pecan pie can be overwhelmingly sweet. But hey, its dessert and desserts should be sweet, right? Thankfully, we have rye whiskey. There’s a reason that rye works so well in sweet cocktails. With its spicy backbone, rye whiskey’s notes of nutmeg, cloves, and cinnamon helps cut through the sugary sweetness providing a balance that’s sure to delight.

Henry Road Straight Malt and Apple Pie

Our Henry Road Straight Malt has a distinct apple character, lending itself perfectly to apple pie

Although the saying goes, “as American as apple pie,” malt whiskeys are far from the most common American whiskey. Most typically associated with scotch and whiskies from outside the US, malt whiskeys are an exciting and growing part of American whiskey. Don’t let malt whiskey’s relative obscurity in America stop you from trying this pairing. With aromas of apple blossom and honey and flavors of green apple and sugar cookie, our Henry Road Straight Malt will accentuate and enhance the apple, cinnamon, and brown sugar found in most apple pies. As an added bonus, Henry Road has nice pastry notes that come from the 100% heirloom malted barley mash bill. This unexpected pairing is a new holiday classic.

Whatever your holiday traditions, we hope you enjoy time with friends and family and have a moment to celebrate with a glass of whiskey and slice of pie.
