Introducing the 2025 Laws Headwaters Series: Rio Grande Edition

We are proud to announce the second release in our Headwaters Series: the Rio Grande Edition—a whiskey born from the very waters and land that define our Colorado roots. This limited-edition expression not only showcases the incredible flavor that comes from grains grown in the San Luis Valley and water sourced from the Rio Grande River, but also stands as a commitment to preserving the ecosystems and communities that make our whiskey possible.

WHISKEY WITH PURPOSE

Crafted from 100% heirloom San Luis Valley rye, this expression is aged between 4 and 8 years in 53-gallon charred oak barrels and proofed down with purified water from the Rio Grande River.

What makes this year’s release especially meaningful is that the very same water used to nourish our rye fields is also used to proof the whiskey, a unique feature that sets it apart from our other rye whiskeys.

Much like the grains grown in the San Luis Valley, the distinct mineral profile of the Rio Grande imparts a clean, slightly earthy mouthfeel and a dry, complex finish.

Tasting Notes:
Aromas of sandalwood, cola syrup, and lemon zest. The palate is elegant and balanced, offering flavors of pear, allspice, honey graham cracker, and citrus. The finish is dry, complex, and subtly sweet with oak.
This is more than just great whiskey—it’s an invitation to taste Colorado’s headwaters in every sip.

Available Exclusively at the Laws Whiskey House Sanctuary Starting Tuesday, May 13

WHY THE RIO GRANDE?

The Rio Grande isn’t just a waterway—it’s a lifeline. It nourishes the Cody family farm, where we grow the grain that goes into our whiskey. But today, that river is under serious threat. In fact, AmericanRivers.org named the Lower Rio Grande one of America’s Most Endangered Rivers of 2025.
Years of drought, aquifer depletion, and worsening dustbowl conditions have brought the San Luis Valley to a critical point. Our farmers are battling to preserve multi-generational farms as water scarcity puts both their livelihoods and the broader agricultural economy at risk. We chose to highlight the Rio Grande now because we believe that sustainable whiskey must support sustainable water.

JOIN US: LAWS WHISKEY WEDNESDAY | MAY 28TH

To celebrate this meaningful release, we’re hosting a special Laws Whiskey Wednesday on May 28 at the Laws Whiskey House Sanctuary. GIVING BACK: SUPPORTING THE RIO GRANDE HEAWATERS RESTORATION PROJECT

As part of our commitment to water stewardship, 10% of proceeds from the sale of this bottle will be donated to the Rio Grande Headwaters Restoration Project (RGHRP)—a nonprofit formed to rehabilitate and protect the Rio Grande Basin in Colorado.
Since 2001, RGHRP has worked with local landowners, farmers, and agencies to improve water quality, restore riparian habitats, and strengthen critical infrastructure along the river. This collaboration ensures that both the ecological and agricultural health of the region are preserved for generations to come. Check out RGHRP Upcoming Projects HERE

A SPIRIT WITH SOUL

While whiskey alone can’t solve the water crisis, we believe in the power of incremental action. The 2025 Headwaters Series: Rio Grande Edition is our way of giving back to the lands and waters that give so much to us.
Visit us at the Laws Whiskey House Sanctuary starting Tuesday, May 13 to purchase your bottle—and join us in raising a glass to a healthier, more sustainable future.
Here’s to whiskey with purpose—and the people and places that make it possible.
